Stress fractures of the hip are pretty rare because the hip is such a strong, thick bone. Stress fractures are most common in the lower legs and foot bones. In the hip, the most fragile component is the cartilage that covers the hip bone and socket (called the labrum). This cartilage is much weaker and softer than bone (it’s like the stuff your ear is made of) and it can tear. If you are having that much pain, then you probably have either a torn labrum or a torn tendon in one of the lower abdomenal or upper thigh muscles.
In any case you need to see an orthopedic specialist. You could be looking at having to have surgery, if either of these things is true.
