My dogs eat twice a day 10 am and 6 pm. Of course, they always have fresh water 24/7. My 2 older dogs eat in the kitchen and the 2 puppies eat in their playpens. When the puppies are older they will also eat in the kitchen.
I leave my dog’s water out 24/7 & also her dry & freeze dried raw food is always measured out then placed into empty water bottles. She eats when she’s hungry so yes her food is also left out 24/7.My dog is a regulator & never eats more than she needs.
I’m going to get so many thumbs down for this lol.. but I leave her food out in the kitchen all day since it’s dry dog food. But I don’t keep re-filling it. I give a certain amount and she’ll come and go throughout the day and eats when she wants. She usually eats half in the morning when I put the bowl down, some in the afternoon, and the rest at night. She always has water available though.
its not good to free feed, it can cause overweight dogs..two meals is best with the heaviest meal in the evening.
yea, if you dont get the dog udes to eating what it wants, when food becomes available, it will often overeat in some breeds, water the same, and usually in an area w/ laminated floor or tile floor, easier clean up
i have chi’s and i leave food and water out for them 24/7. they all eat out of the same bowl also. they are well trained and do not mess up in the house. i can also leave a plate of food in front of them, tell them no, walk out of room and they will not touch it.
When I fed kibble they were freefed 24/7 – I have 8 dogs and none were overweight or obese. But when I switched to raw, they went down to two meals a day– they get one main meal a day and a little meal/snack in the evening. And they ALWAYS have fresh water. They get fed in the living room or in the kitchen. And I have water in both rooms as well as in my bedroom.
I leave it out for a few hours. And I am fine with it. They eat outside and the dog food and bowls go into the dog food cupboard, which is in the living room/entry room.
My dogs get fed twice a day, food is eaten within 10 minutes, if not I’m concerned. If I left the food out, my little disabled girl would gorge herself and gain weight; quickly resulting in having to fork out $5-$10,000 in cruciate repairs. My other guy is working on loosing that last 5lbs of excess weight. Water gets left out 24/7.
You need to feed better food than kibbles and bits, that is one of the worst consumer foods on the market, might as well feed ol Roy and take em out back.
I feed my dogs in their crates. They have their own room, so the dog room in our house at night. During the day when we can they come in for raw. At night good dry food for their teeth, again in their crates. We have a range of age and food requirements. And at different times a spaying or neutering or other medical treatment that required confinement so I am glad they we always fed them in their crates. When they were young we had a feeder outside for them to snack on, one dog got fat and we had to put on a diet.
My two dogs get fed twice a day. Breakfast and dinner. They get water 24/7
If my dogs don’t eat their breakfast then I put the food up until dinnertime. This keeps them on a schedule and helps me time their "potty breaks" so there are no incidents in the house.
We have a Chihuahua and we leave food and water out 24/7.
we have our dogs’ food in our room and we fill their bowls like every 2 days. we fill them full and it takes like 2 days for them to finish all of it. then we refill the bowls. my dogs both used to be thin so that’s why we gave them free choice.
if your dog has a tendency to over eat or is getting chunky you should not leave it out all day, put it down after the family meals 2 or 3 times a day.
I have dogs who will only eat a few bites at a time, and for those i leave the bowls down all day. Also if you plan on going out for several hours and you dog has to "hold it" in the house till you get back to let it outside to "go" you might consider picking the food up. Leave the water though, in case you are gone longer than you think you don’t want your dog to get dehydrated.
I never leave food down ever. If they don’t finish within 15 or so mins the bowls go up, my dogs usually finish long before that. Fresh water is left out 24/7.
My dogs eat 2x’s a day. If they don’t eat the food within 15 minutes, I pick it up. I do not leave food down all day. Fortunately, my dogs eat everything right away. I also measure out their food with a measuring cup, so I make sure I’m not over feeding them.
Water stays down all day. I feed Merrick Wilderness blend. I don’t use an automatic water or food dispenser. I feed the dogs myself. How hard is it to measure out some food and put it in a bowl?
If I free fed my dogs, they’d be the size of whales, or what I like to call Kegs on Legs. They’d eat until they vomit.
I feed twice per day, 1 1/2 cups in the morning and one at night with RMB’s every other day. If I feed them a big meal of raw, then I fast them for a day.
I keep their kibble in airtight containers in my vacuum and ironing board cupboard. Raw food is frozen and bought out a day before I intend to feed it to thaw.
i have the same thing you do and i leave it our 24/7 with my newfie and his bag of food is behind the food/water feeder. he never mess with it
he gets fed once a day.. if he cant eat it within a reasonable time, its put up.
he is fed raw.. so obviously I cannot leave his food set out.
I feed him in his crate.. I move the crate around the house tho.
My Boxers have full feed and water its left out for them all the time otherwise on my dogs their weight seems to drop. I think it depends on the dog.
