what ever you do if the person with the other duplex does not treat for the roaches the same time you wont get rid of them. using bombs with a baby in the house is a bad idea as they put everything in their mouths, maybe try some spray like Ortho max home defense. A one gallon bottle is only $12 and should be enough to do the whole building a couple of times.
My advice is for you to shake everything out thoroughly, clean all of your kitchen drawers out, and tell your landlord to call the exterminator. He will have to spray the other side of the duplex as well, but you need to stay on top of it. CLose all drains when not in use especially if you live in the south. They lay eggs and those must be destroyed as well. Remove ALL adhesive type shelf lining and use the non adhesive type.
with boric acid / borax powder you are needing the roaches to crawl through it to kill them, you are unable to place the powder where you need it and if you place it too heavy it acts as a repellent so the roaches just avoid the treated areas..you need to go with a gel bait that come in a syringe, you can place it out exactly where the roaches are hiding and it is a food they seek out…after they feed on it, the toxin will be in the fecal material which the baby roaches feed on..professionally a bait treatment is what is done for proper German roach eradication
You have a big problem you need to go to the store and spend money on bombs your going to have to leave the house and do this , Start hand washing your cloths in the tub and see if you can hang them outside to dry but you need to get rid of these bugs the carrie disease and your kids will get sick
A great way to reduce the roach population is to remove the food source. That basicly means the house work needs to get done. If you wash a plate or cup as soon as you are finished with it there will be no dishes to pile up. Your husband will have to help you, no one person can do it alone. Take out trash on a daily basis. Your land lord also needs to take responsibility about this but I’m not sure how much he would do if he doesn’t even provide properly working appliances.
There is a great product called Martin’s Viper, it’s not cheap, about $10 for a tiny bottle. It’s concentrated so it has to be mixed with water, it’s also toxic. I would be very careful using it around children, maybe just spraying the outside perimeter would work. You can find it on Ebay but my local Ace Hardware also carries it.
I’m just curious about something I hope you are using the internet at work or someone else’s house. The reason I say this is maybe prioritizing would be good, get rid of luxuries like the net and use the money on basics like the laundry.
Boric acid powder, made to kill roaches, will kill the roaches. You do not have to wait for the roaches to crawl through it any more than you have to wait for them to go to gel or go to a bait deal. The boric acid powder is noted to be the only roach killer that roaches do not get immuned to. The powder dries the roaches out. The roaches get the powder on them and they take it to their nest and hiding places. This kills the other roaches and the babies. Some of the hiding places are in the walls, behind the cabinets and in cracks. Boric acid tablets cost from 3-4 dollars and can be put behind the stove and behind and in between things in the kitchen. They can be dropped in those places, where the gel and baits can not be put. And be out of the reach of the children. The powder can be lightly dropped in those places too. Some people mix the boric acid powder with sugar and corn meal to make little balls to put around. Mint tea bags in the drawers will keep roaches out of the drawers.
There are Eco-friendly, all natural pest control products that can repel roaches, ants, and other insects. Here is a website I found that has a cool, new herbal pest repellent.
