Help! Found worms in the kitchen…are they coming from my kittens?
Okay, I have three cats. Two are brother and sister and are small kittens. I believe they were born on 4/19 so they are not that old. The older kitten will be a year in August. Not this fourth of July weekend but the Sunday before, I went to a pet clinic and got them shots. My older kitten had already received shots but before but we got her vaccinated again. The two younger cats had never been vaccinated before and received the general kitten vaccines and a deworm. I also, received a free sample of kitten revolution. This is suppose to help treat parasites and what not. Okay, so this morning I wake up and there are worms everywhere! Yuck!!! I keep the litter box in the corner of the kitchen and there are these worms that look like maggots spread across the kitchen floor and behind the litter box. My house is clean and I am a vegetarian so I don’t know where the worms are coming from. I thought maybe a fly laid an egg near the litter box because I didn’t see any actual worms in the litter box?? What are your thoughts? Last night I changed the litter, swept the floor and wiped the floor around the litter box with Lysol wipes; I did not see any worms. This morning there must have been 15 worms scattered around the kitchen floor. Do you think maybe the kittens passed some worms in their stool last night? What kind of worms could these be if they are coming from the kittens because they were dewormed a week ago and given revolution. They were yellowish/whiteish with darker color “faces.” Help!
Yes, one of them had a really bloated tummy when we got him but it looks like it is deflating. Although, the girl looks like she is not gaining any weight and seems to be hungry a lot…as if she is not getting the right nutrients in her body. Anyways, it is gross. I did purchase a fecal test that I have to turn in on Sunday. So, I have to wait until then. Like I said the worms look like maggots or like long grains of rice. Any idea how long it will take for them to poop them all out?

Sounds like it!! They are pooping out those worms!! Thats a good thing. If they have bloated bellies then they probably had a bunch of worms! If you notice them pooping more than usual, thats fine too. They are just getting all those nasty little things out. They might lose a little weight, its normal. I know its gross, but it will go away soon. They might be rubbing their butts on the floor after they poop…thats a sign of worms..probably how you are getting them on the floor!!
What do the worms look like?
Look at their stool. Are there worms inside of it?
If there are, put a sample into a bag or container and take it to a vet to examine.
