How can i get my cat to drink her water in the kitchen?

My cat is 20 yrs old and has been drinking water in my kitchen right by her food for 20 years. Last year i brought her a water fountain which she enjoyed right away , i put in right by her food in the kitchen.

All of a sudden some months ago, she would meow at me and my family while we drank water, we would put our cup down and she would drink from the cup.. We thought this was cute, she started doing this all the time expecting us to give her a cup with water.. One day i put a cup with water on top of the table in the living room and she jumped up to drink it.. I put a stool there so she would get down.. The next day she meowed by the table waiting for water, i thought it was cute and put the stool there and she climbed up and drank water..

For about 4 months now she refuses to drink water in the kitchen, from the fountain or bowl, i even put a cup with water in the kitchen-she wont drink it…. She will only drink on top of the living room table… I took the cup away and put the water in the kitchen for one whole day,, She refused to drink and meowed for an hour by the table, then got very depressed and hid the whole night.

What do you think is going on here?
Shes healthy, only has a thyroid problem
actually i put the same water in the kitchen on the table and she drinks it but will not come to the kitchen to drink it.

Yea maybe her age has something to do with it.

Cats can be picky and stubborn. At least mine can!

She likes to drink from the table and wants to continue. I suspect if you go long enough she will get thirsty and drink from her old location.

But she is 20 years old! Why not let her enjoy drinking from where she likes to? As you said – it’s cute.
If it makes her happy, I’d continue.

Basically the best reason I can think of is the fact that the water or bowl is dirty, or the water from the tap seems to taste bad all of a sudden. Maybe some bottled water. However 20 years is about 115 years in cat years. That could also be a contributing factor.

A Word About Choosing Bar Stools

Most brands and makers of kitchen and bar stools that are adjustable allow about 10 to 15 inches, which can accommodate almost anyone.
