Hit it with a can of antique-effect spray paint, such as a weathered bronze or verdigris (weathered copper.)
Maybe the do it yourself webpage has something(diy.com)
I saw this on a home improvement show and in order for nails to look rustic they put glue on them and rolled it in dark dirt. It sounds really weird but it looked really good.
try some brown or other color—bronze or such in some areas of the cage and you can either leave it like that or sand some areas of the cage so it can look like it has been around for some time—rustic and out in the open—weathered look. Hope this helps.
Really put it in the fire it will burn off the paint. Wet it down to cool off. it will rust and then you have a rustic looking bird cage.
Take a rag dip it in some paint and rub on and off . Giving it some distressed look.
there are spray paints that you can buy that has a distressed look go to your local hardware store or paint store to find them
well there are several types of textured spray paint that would work, but another choice would be to use a thin layer of white paint such as acrylic, so the black would show through unevenly.
Spray paint the cage a copper color, then take a turquoise craft paint like Folk Art, and lightly sponge it on the cage so it looks like seasoned copper.
Paint it light green, red, or gold & wipe it off in sertain spots with a rag before it dries to let some of the black show throgh.
