how do u train a cat when spraying them with water doesnt work?

we have tryed the water thing for about 2 months it doesnt seem to work our cat gets in to the paper towels and gets them all over the house the same with the toilet paper and he digs the furniture and gets up on the kitchen table and on the counters and he bites and scratches people

Wow, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize my cats had called your cat and told him how to be bad…..(smile)
I have cabinets with childproof locks, I keep paper towels on a rack inside the kitchen cabinet. Bathroom is OFF LIMITS.. Unless someone is getting a "time out" Then I take the toilet paper off the holder till he/she is allowed out.
I used time out for; on the counters and fighting. I don’t spank and I can’t move fast enough for the water sprayer. I have small plastic (empty) water bottles that I throw ….Just kidding.
Keep the nails trimmed If you can’t do it, take him to a groomer or the vet. That won’t stop the digging at the furniture, but it cuts down on the damage. If you believe in declawing, do it. But, make sure to get a vet who has had A LOT of experience doing this.
When he bites, thump his nose….not hard, just enough to get his attention. Scratching will be helped a little if you trim the nails.
You may want to get him a friend. In the beginning, when I was young, I always had two cats. They seemed to be better behaved than just having one.
You didn’t mention how old he is, but I am assuming he is still quite young.

ok well i havd the same problem..so wen tried hissing like a cat lol u cant try it…put usally we clap really loud and sau get down and the noise startles them so they get down!!!ooh he bites too huh….well idk boyut that but if they r getting into the towels wen ur gone..take a small peeice of tape and tape both end so that he cant get into it…..lol my freind cat bit him so he bit it back and it never bit him again lol but i dont think u should try it …the cat might attack u

You can’t "train" cats. You can reinforce what they like doing.
How old is your cat? What sex is it? Has it been fixed? Did you have this cat ever since it was a kitten?
The best form of correction is a swift tap on it’s nose, which is the most sensitive part on their body. When a baby kitten does something they are not supposed to do, the momma cat will bat at the kittens nose for punishment. Try that a few times and firmly say the word "NO" and sooner or later the cat will understand what he or she is doing is not acceptable behavior with you.

Try picking him up and throwing him in the shower. Cats do NOT like that. I actually did that to my cat and it only took twice and now he listens to me when I say no!

Water spraying is overused in my opinion. There are some other techniques and some behaviors will just not change.
I got a paper towel holder that is magnetized and I put it on the refrigerator. As in dealing with a lot of human behavior sometimes it is better to go around a problem (as in the principle of many martial arts) than trying to meet it headon.
Try putting rocks or screws in a plastic pop bottle when he does something bad slam it to the floor the noise scares them and hopefully the bad habit will end. Also There is a product called scat, it makes a beeping noise and squirts air, Its a motion sensor. I had a male cat the dug in my plants, opened the cupboards, and he eventually just grew out of it. .

Some things may have taken hold. You don’t say how old your cat is.
When ever I brought a new cat into the house I trained them by playing that I was the mother cat. If the cat went up on the counter, I knocked him off. on the table I did the same thing. If it touched something it was not supposed to, I struck out at it using only a finger or two. You don’t want to maime the poor thing.
A mother cat knocks the kitten out of the way, she will claw at it and spit at it and growl at it and she will carry it to safety.
So when you catch your cat doing something you don’t want her to do, then strike out and growl hiss. the cat will get the message.
Unless like me you bring in an older cat who teaches your 13 and 12 year old cats how to be a cat……
u spank them lightly on the bottom & say no it may take a while but it works oh yea & show him what he did bad
You need to be patient with a young cat. Learn to adopt him/her slowly to the family. I have successfully use catnip (either dried leaves or sprayed formula form) to teach the cat where to play, and where not. That way the cat can learn and grow.
