That’s fine. Really for just a Coke, you don’t have to tip. And you don’t have tip at all for carry-out meals. So, it was nice of you to give anything.
yes that was fine…. she wasn’t really attending you while the food was being cooked and getting a drink takes literally 50 seconds or less, a dollar for 50 seconds work? you tell me if thats bad pay.
In my restaurant, I have stopped expecting tips on togo orders. I’ve found that about 1 out of 5 people tip on them. Therefore, it’s good that you left something, and there’s really no reason to tip 20%, I would have put $2 for her, at least make it 10%, but I would say that $1 on a $2 bill (she served you the drink) is an acceptable tip.
heres how i do it;
if i’m not making that much money at the time, they’d be real lucky to get anything at all.
if i have a decent paying job like now, then in your situation i would tip at least 3-5 bucks thats if she was nice and helpful and the food tasted good.
I’ve done carryout orders at restaurants before. You rock. Thanks for caring about this issue and for appreciating the service you received. Your tip was appropriate and very welcome I’m sure.
With togo orders there’s no set rules. Its rude not to tip on a togo order despite what some people think. The waiter still has to pack up your food and get you drinks while their tables still need their attention. You don’t have to tip much, in your case the dollar was fine. I’d probably would have given about 3 dollars, but thats just me.
