I’m thinking of going vegan/raw vegan, but i saw this post?
I was thinking of going raw vegan after being vegan, mainly to avoid cooking and making the kitchen look bombed really. However some googling and did and youtubing, i saw a few nice recipies that sounded nice, but i saw this comment of a guy
"I agree. I tried eating a raw vegan diet, but I kept having diarrhea for many months. I eat the superfoods and have drinked the green smoothies. I really like the green smoothies, but I kept having digestive problems. Once I included meat back into my diet it is totally gone! Perfect light brown firm stools now. Sorry for being graphic. I like David Wolfe and think it is great he is helping people. He has alot of good information. I just don’t see the long term effects of eating that way."
He had diarrhea for months? is that normal? is that what raw veganism does to you?
what do you think this was?

That person was probably drinking A LOT of fruit smoothes. Fruit contains a lot of natural sugars which can cause diarrhea. If your eating a proper raw diet and include all of the food groups than you will be fine. It is normal to keep going to bathroom for the first week on a raw food diet, your body is cleaning itself out. Your body will stabilize itself.
Scary as that sounds I have found I do better on RAW VEGAN eating.
1) It naturally cuts out my main food allergies Dairy & Gluten (Wheat, Barley, Rye etc.)
2) Upped my Fiber(RAW fruit & Veggie are full of fiber) made what was a constant struggle with that problem ~ GONE!
Some food plans add a fiber assist for transition but I found I didn’t need it
Start off slow 50% Raw.. start Lunch & Dinner with a huge fresh raw veggie salad, all your snacks Raw Fresh Fruit, Nuts, Seeds.
Green Smoothies are super they are just Blended fruit drinks with a green of choice added. I use Organic baby Spinach most of the time. or Romaine..both so mild even my 3 year old granddaughter luvs them.
Simple basic recipe: 1 cup Fruit Fresh or Frozen no sugar added. I use a frozen Tropical Blend most.
1 cup Organic fruit juice or water,
1 hand-full of spinach or romaine,
Blend until smooth. If you need it sweeter I use Raw Agave Nectar or Pitted Meedjol Dates For nutritional boosts Flax oil or flour, bee pollen, coconut oil can be added.
I suggested a great Un-cook Book: Raw Foods Made Easy by Jennifer Cornbleet. This is the one I always suggest for starting out because it doesn’t require too much in fancy kitchen gadgets & gives clear instructions on soaking seeds & nuts. I have several others I luv too Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen, by Ani Phyo & both of Carol Alt’s books( much fancier un-cooking)
Slainté (to your health)
many people are raw vegans, and there fine. nobody would do it if they had constant diarrhea, so yeah do it /(:
I can see why someone would get diarrhea as fiber helps you go number 2 (meaning it helps constipation if you are, aka you will be more likely to go poop more even have diarrhea if you have too much fiber as those green smoothies do)
Just stay away from the green smoothie’s – lol the veggies will add plenty of fiber to your diet so diarrhea should not be a problem. Just make sure you get enough protein.
Hmmm…That guy sounds like a troll to me.
My husband always advises a raw food diet for his patients with digestive issues, and they thrive on it. It’s a CURE, not a cause.
A raw food plan isn’t about "superfoods" and "green smoothies," although many raw foodists consume them. It’s about fruits, vegetables, juices, nuts and seeds.
One caution- a raw food diet probably isn’t for someone who wants to get out of the kitchen, since convenience foods and take-out are not an option, and most recipes are fairly time consuming.
