My new business – a McDonalds / Burger King combined restaurant! Where do I buy their huge outdoor signs?
Over the years, I’ve heard hundreds (if not thousands) of people state they like Burger King hamburgs but don’t like their fries. They further state their desire for Burger King hamburgs with McDonalds fries. However, your average person is not going to travel to both restaurants and wait for each item as the other gets cold.
This is where my ingenious idea comes to play. I will reconstruct my kitchen room & dining room into restaurant fully equipped with tables, stools & chairs. I’m going to hire 2 teenagers that will travel to McDonalds for fries & Burger King for Burgers every half hour. This brings the 2 products to the customer – nicely, quickly & hot!!!!
What I need at this point is information where to buy the large McDonald and Burger King signs they have outside their restaurants to put outside my house. Where do I get them?

I don’t think this is an ingenious idea at all! How will you come up with a franchise fee for two different restaurants? These run about 50k a piece! Who says McDonald’s would support their competitor anyway? They spend billions perfecting their image and marketing to children. Why would they want their good name in a store with another restaurant’s brand? Seems silly. You will have significant overhead, because you will have to pay selling price for the items, gas and insurance on these teens cars- yes you do have to insure them on the clock (do you know how much it costs to insure a teen driver?!) and for payroll. How will the teens keep the food warm, when you say that your customers’ food will get cold by the time they get to the second restaurant? When I worked at McDonald’s, new fries were made every seven minutes and never sat longer than 15. How can your teen drive across town with that amount of frequency? How will you get people to pay triple or more to cover your costs?
You have to own a franchise to get one of their large signs. And both companies will sue you if you try to do this without their acceptance, which neither would ever give because they’d be supporting their competitor.
You probably get them from the company headquarters if they’ve authorized one of their restaurants to be their, they’ll send it.
Wow I hope you are not serious.. It costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to get those signs. You have to be a franchisee. and if you are not, and sell the stuff anyway, you will be lible for every bit of revenue you bring in and both McDonalds and Burger King will have you in court by the end of your first week of business.
If you are opening a franchise branch like Burger King or McDonald’s then contact there companies they can supply you with their signs, But before you invest into your idea you need to find out if these companies will let you use their name and only PART of their products, I really don’t think they will go with this idea, and if you put up their signs without them in full agreement with the kind of establishment you are planning they could sue you pretty hard, Please do your homework and get signatures from these companies before investing.
It’s a good innovative idea, but, maybe not so well thought out.
What would your costings be? Bearing in mind that you will have to buy from Mac D and BK and then charge your customers an amount over your buy-in price to make a profit.
From this profit you will have to pay your staff and your fixed costs and other overheads.
Now, I’m not saying don’t do it, I’m just saying take your idea and play around with it a little.
Maybe you could take the good bits about MacD and BK and create your own brand.
Good luck and keep those ideas flowing.
