I live in Idaho, but in a city in a subdivision. i am remodeling a home with my dad, and he wants to put wood siding on the house, and make the exterior rustic looking. i personally feel that that would be out of place because we live on a cul de sac, and that if anything we should just paint the siding. the siding is in monderate shape, nothing that demands change now, but it is a little cookie cutter. i am consurnd (sp?) that wood siding is going to be unappealing to most people, and that it wont fit with the rest of the house. the interior is modern, with stanlees appliances, bamboo floors ets. any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Getting rid of roaches?

ok me and my husband are not the cleanest of people. we just had a baby when we moved into our side of the duplex a year and some months ago. We brought small cockroaches with us in our appliances since the apartments we lived in were infested with them. The duplex we live in now has no washer and dryer or hookups, no stove, and a fridge with a leaky freezer. We can’t do our laundry all the time since the laundry mats are expensive and our money needs to go towards things for the babies. We have two kids now. So our laundry piles up and we have a lot of boxes and our kitchen isn’t the cleanest. We have roaches everywhere. There is a nest in every dark place. We are in the process of duct taping all our boxes completely so roaches can’t hide in there and i made a baking soda sugar and water paste. And we will be getting as much of our laundry done as we can afford. worth of loads.

My biggest question is how well does a boric acid killer work and a borax killer work? Will it get rid of all the roaches we have and the nests? To describe the amount of roaches we have, we have a very small foot stool made out of wood that folds up. I shook it and more than 20 roaches were knocked off. And i see about 20 roaches crawling on our walls a day in broad daylight.

Please help me!!

Got a quote to install Shaw Natural Values laminate throughout my entire first floor. They will remove all existing carpet in the living and dining rooms, vinyl in the kitchen, and hardwood in the foyer. They will also handle moving all furniture and appliances and price includes underlayment and transitions. Basically, it comes out to a little over /sq ft for the installation.

I am buying my first home in two days and my husband wants to paint before we move in because I am pregnant. I am having a horrible time picking the paint for the living room and kitchen which are joined. My furniture is brown and I wanted green for the living room but my kitchen is going to have black appliances and red items in it and I don’t want it to look to Christmas-y. The trim throughout the home is light oak, which we want to keep. Can someone please help me? I have terrible color coordination skills and this is totally stressing me out.

Here are pictures of the rooms below.

what kind of paint should i use for my house.?

Ok well i just bought a house and im not going to lie it needs a lil help. The whole house is carpet including the kitchen. It does have wood floors under neath so i am planning to take the carpet out. I also want to repaint or stain the cabinets and i don’t know what color to stain the cabinets and floors. My furniture and appliances are black so i just need some help. Keep in my that my kitchen and living room are connected and am planning to change the wall color as well. so help

I was originally going to do my kitchen in black and white with lavendar accents but the more I read looking for remodeling ideas, the more I read about shying away from dark colors in a room that has little to no natural light. Well, now my whole plan is shot, I have no idea what color to do now. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what colors to do which will make it feel more open and not small and closed in? I really appreciate all of your help. And just for reference, my floor is already gray and I have white appliances, the rest is changeable so, paint colors, furniture ideas, cabinet colors, decor and so on. Thanks so much! God Bless!

What color should I paint my kitchen?

I want to repaint kitchen–have oak cabinets in a honey maple finish. The countertops are a green-grey formica (that I want to replace, but have to live with for now). The floor is oak and matches the cabinets. I have a white glossy ceramic tile backsplash & white appliances that I also have to keep. The kitchen opens to my family room which is a light tan. I have very traditional furniture–colors are maroon, blue, dark green. My dining room/living room is a camel color. I want the room colors to flow–currently the kitchen is a medium green (with more blue tones). Also the kitchen has heavy afternoon sun and it gets really bright. So I would like to stick with cool tones. I thought about sage, but it does not contrast well with the white tile. There is really not a lot of wall to paint. I display some baskets, some antique cookie jars and antique copper measures on top of the cabinets. Should I go darker? Help!

I want to warm up my kitchen–too white?

I have a fairly large family room 14′ x 20′ and kitchen/breakfast area 10′ x 20′ broken up by a kitchen bar.

The bar/sink and main kitchen have white corian countertops. The cabinets, all appliances, and the sink are white.
The kitchen walls and family room walls are a Taupe or a Toffee color. The ceiling is white.

Both areas and foyer have light Oak hardwood floor that needs to be resurfaced-so I can go with alot darker stain on the hardwood floors if need be.

There are several windows in both areas so lots of sunlight in the morning as it faces East.
I can paint the cabinets, walls, and redo the floors to warm it up but I cannot afford to replace the Corian Countertops at this time.

I have a week and a half time frame between when the Sellers move out and I move in and want to get at least the floors done for obvious reasons before I move in–if not all of it.

Any ideas or combinations of ideas of what to do to warm up the kitchen up and at a minimum?

furniture and appliance buying, prices/markup.?

I just went to a store here in St. Louis, MO area. I’m buying everything I need for a new home. This is on of those have everything stores. Anyway they have different sales reps for the different departments(ie; appliances, electronics, furniture, etc) So I talk to the furniture guy and pick out everything I need, mattress/box spring, bedroom set, dresser, check, night stands, kitchen table w/6 chairs, plus 3 extra chairs, sectional couch. Then I go to the appliance guy, pick out a frigerator, and a front loader washer dryer set by LG. The total for the furniture guy comes to about 9k, he goes down to about 6700 after tax and deliver, the total for the. The appliance guy has a total for 4243 after tax , del, and warranty on both the washer/dryer. His regular price is about 4350, so not much off, he stated the washer and dryer where already on sale at 999, each. So I have a total of about 10,900 after tax and deliver for everything. After an original price of about 13,300-13,500. Do you think these guys can come down more, maybe to the 7500 range for everything? If not I think I’m probably going to pass, but wanted to see if there is even a chance at the price.

Where can I donate boxes of rice?

I have about 6 boxes of rice sitting on my kitchen shelf. I would like to donate them to charity. Does anyone know of an organization that would pick them up, or where I can take them to? Most organizations only accept clothing, appliances and furniture. I am looking for one that accepts food. Please help.
I also found 47 packages of instant noodles and a box of tofu sauce mix to donate!
