I have cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling (over the )sink they are white but I’m not sure what color I want them to be…also I want to try and make/create a island/breakfast nook between the 2 windows that are almost the length of the wall any ideas of a cheap way to do this, counter top attached to wall okay? I want to use 2 bar stools no kitchen table and chairs. I’m single and want to sit there and read paper, or have coffee doesn’t need to be that big. can i get a counter top and use brackets to attach to the wall or to tacky…anyway any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joy

We are currently re doing our kitchen and have bought dresser units but we are wanting to have them hanging on the wall, not sat on the worktop. Any help in what brackets we need to use so they don’t fall off would be great.
forgot to add, they are going on a freshly plasted brick wall.

What is missing from this description?

It is a description of an inn in Panama in the 1750′s I know that it is quick and dirty, but it is a re-write from an earlier version that was a real info dump.

A rich aroma of bacon and beans pours from the open doorway, and from the street any passerby can see that a few simple tables and chairs have been arranged on the freshly swept dirt floor. As we take our first look inside the small room feels like a dark and sinister cave, obtaining only bare minimum of daylight from the open doorway and two undersized windows found in the back of the room. Evenly spaced on each wall are brackets wherein torches can be placed and they have stained the raftered ceiling black with their smoke. No pictures adorn the walls, but this does not matter, for no man dares enter and enjoy the hospitality of the bar, for fear persuades all intruders to leave. All those who dare cross that threshold will see that ragged old gentleman of fortune sitting behind a table.

the chairlift problem?

There is a chairlift with seats capable of carrying up to 10 people.
Every 50 seconds a new chair starts from the bottom of the chairlift.
There are four different group of skiers that are skiing on the slope served by this chairlift.
The size of each group (number of skiers) can vary from time to time since some of the skiers of each group may stop at the bar and drinking something hot.
At each ride a group can have a size between 1 and 10 skiers.
The groups want always to sit all together on the chair, if there is not enough space for the entire group to sit they will wait for the next seat and allow another group (if any is waiting) to take the chairlift.
Two or more groups can sit on the same chair if the sum of their sizes is less or equal 10.
The group which is waiting for a longer time and which size is less than the capacity of the chair (taking into account previous groups sitting on the same chair) will sit on the chair with an higher priority (FIFO).
Assume that each group arrives at the entrance of the chairlift with an uniformly-distributed size and a known probability.
What is the mean time that a group of 5 people must wait before sitting on a chair?
What is the maximum time?

Example

at time t1 there are G1(4) G2(8) G3(2) waiting (G1 is waiting for the longest time while G3 for the shortest), the number in brackets represents the size of the group.
at time t1+dt a chair will start: on this chair will sit G1 and G3.

I’ve received this in a job interview and I had about 30 minutes to solve it, I’m quite confident about my computation of the maximum time while I don’t know how to compute the mean time. Excuse me in advance for the English but I’m writing what I remember since they didn’t give me a copy of the text..
Anyone knows a possible solution?

I know I need a contractor for this because I myself can’t do it, but I have a question…

I guess there was a complete wall between my kitchen and dining room. Previous owners must have decided to open it up– but did a HORRIBLE job on it (unless they were giants!). Pretty much, they cut down the wall, but it is too high to be used for anything (except as a high table top with really high bar chairs). You can’t really cut on it and you can’t really prep food unless you have a step stool! Not only that, but they got one of the cheap countertops (plastic looking one), plopped it on top of their messy- cut wall (it looks really bad), held it up with huge gray brackets (the walls are white) and on the other side, a wooden pole to hold up that side of the counter. Yes, a wooden pole. That’s not even fastened to the floor, so I can kick it out of place if I want to.

Technically, all that has to be done is to cut more dry wall and place a countertop correcly, right? Do I need to worry about electrical issues or if it’s load bearing? Aside of studs, is there anything I need to consider before getting myself into this? Seems pretty simple, but I have no experience with any kind of construction work.

Thank in advance.
Oh, I definitely saw it prior to purchasing. But I figured it was a minor adjustment. There are a few things in the house that are actually off on their size (cabinets are hung really low due to large soffits that I am also going to get looked at to see if there is anything behind it). Previous owners seemed a bit lax about the detailing since it is an older home (built in 83). No renovation, but some minor accomadations I guess. I will def get some estimates. Didn’t think that maybe there was something in the wall that stopped them from going lower Thx!

I had posted a version of this question awhile ago while I was still a high school student, but now as I am a college student much has changed. Yet, at times I feel that rather than truly changing I have adopted two different personalities that at certain times clash. What I was before and what I am now is quite a dilemma. So my question is, how do you feel about me before, how do you feel about me now, and how do you think I should integrate my characteristics together? *[Info in brackets indicate me now]*

So, I’ve always been commented for the way I dress, my personality, intelligence, and so on but I’ve never really found that special person who can keep me interested. Sure people come and go, but there always seems to be a lack of that one girl that I can stick with.

If I had to classify myself I would say that I was somewhat "metrosexual", a bit of a nerd, ambitious, humorous but not a class clown, conservative morals.

"Metrosexual" – So yes, I do care how my appearance and my hygiene quite a bit. I was raised in a traditional family so my dressing style has always been preppy, some would say classy, others would say on the verge of homosexual. I would say I dress between a mix of classic, traditional preppy and urban lifestyle preppy. By metrosexual I mean I do care about how I dress, how my hair looks, I use hair products, facial cleansers, cologne. I try my best to keep clean—I am slightly a neat freak—and stay fresh, I follow a nutrition plan and work out at the gym. But I am not extreme, I do not get manicures and pedicures. I do occasionally pick up a copy of Men’s Health, Gentlemen’s Quarterly, or Vogue.

[The past year I have been slacking up much more in my dress code. Because of the college environment I often find myself dressed in sweat pants, a tee, and tennis shoes, but at the same time I continue to dress the way I did before. It troubles some of my friends as they wonder why the drastic difference from day to day and remind me that "dressing up" (which to me is not) is not normal in college. I feel as though I lose a part of myself and my integrity when I dress so poorly.]

Nerd & Ambitious – One of the most important goals of mine is to get into Harvard Medical School and become a cosmetic surgeon, followed by getting an MBA from Harvard Business School. I envision a life helping others and hopefully having time to spend some summers in 3rd world countries to donate money and participate in humanitarian aid groups. I am not ashamed of spending hours studying, volunteering, interning, but I know how to have fun, although I would prefer playing sports to binge drinking and random sex (although I’ve had my fair share of drinking games). [My goals stay the same, but being introduced to the college life as a Freshman I have turned much more into the party boy I did not envision myself as. I find myself going to the bars, frat parties, house parties, etc. on the weekends and occasionally Thursdays and Fridays. I have become much more social than before and have been encountering situations that come along with the active nightlife that I did not want to happen before. Regardless I am somewhat enjoying this new mixture of study and play. Unfortunately, at the same time it is taking away from my time to just have some "me" time or to participate in other activities.]

Humorous – I would say I am a light hearted humorous person but I am not the class clown and I can be serious but funny depending on the situation. [I have dramatic changed from being subtle in humour to being very outspoken in any situation and being a comedian when I can. Don't get me wrong, I do not act like an idiot, but I do bring the fun whenever I can. As before, I would be more or less on the sidelines.]

Conservative morals – I’m not the type of person who will get shitfaced the night before class nor am I into random hook ups. I am not attracted to "hot" girls but would rather use beautiful, pretty, or gorgeous, I don’t know if this makes sense. My sense of fun is probably different from a lot of college students, I would rather go sailing, sitting by the fireplace, sitting on a train going through the fields of tuscany, visiting the luvre, or sitting down by the sand watching the sunset than to go to a party. [These morals have been troubling me lately. As mentioned I have been partying and going out and encountering everything that comes along with that. Essentially looking at this I have broken many of my morals, but emotionally now it is a mixture of liking what I am doing and yet wanting to stick to my beliefs.]

I appreciate nature, luxury cars, art, architecture, furniture (particularly victorian and french). I greatly enjoy cooking, a typical activity associated with women. I occupy a lot of my time playing sports and working out. I do enjoy simple things such as movies, hanging out here and there, going to the pool, whatever, but I prefer doing big exciting or adventurous activities. [All

I occupy a lot of my time playing sports and working out. I do enjoy simple things such as movies, hanging out here and there, going to the pool, whatever, but I prefer doing big exciting or adventurous activities. [All of this is still true, but as we all know there are only 24 hours in a day. As I think about it I feel as though a lot of my time is consumed by social activities on top of studies. Although it is quite enjoyable to be "in the scene" so to say, it is also very demanding and I feel as though I cannot find a balance between doing everything I like to do and being part of something with everyone else around me.]

I would still like to know what everyone thinks about how I was before, how I am now, and how I should pull my life together.
I wasn’t joking about a very long, serious read.
I don’t expect to get many more answers, but just a few notes to give a better picture.

Yes, I know my dreams are ambitious. I am 100% willing to go through my undergrad, graduate, residency, and practice time. My business goals are linked with my profession as a cosmetic surgeon so it is not two entirely different careers.

I need to install a small drop leaf breakfast bar, I only have basic hand tools and electric drills, sanders etc. I am hoping to find a simple plan I can use (or adapt a plan from a bench/table). Not fussed about fancy routed joints.
I was going to drill a wooden strip into the wall with some nice stainless brackets and then attach the drop leaf to that. Then varnish to match the kitchen benchtop.
Anyone know of anywhere I could find a free plan/DIY guide to doing this?
Also are there some special drop leaf hinges that i can use on the underside that would save making special joints etc? I think I have seen something on a caravan hardware website that may be useful but don’t know where to find these retail. I am in Melbourne Australia so local knowledge most appreciated. Cheers, Cal.

Need help stabilizing a breakfast bar?

I recently had a breakfast bar installed in my kitchen and it is not very stable. There was a 5 1/2 foot wall between my kitchen and dining room that was cut down and a Corian countertop installed. The original wall was attached to another wall at one end and was free standing (ended at an entryway) at the other end. There are brackets supporting the top and it is securely fastened to the wall but the whole wall wobles. Is there any way to stabilize this without adding a leg?

Vogel Peterson has been out of business and I’ve found many sites with replacement arm kits but the brackets won’t fit. My chair has 3 holes for the screws and the other kits all seem to have 4 screw holes.

Kitchen Pass Through Granite question?

I built a kitchen livingroom pass through 56" x 30" I was unsure of how wide to make the granite top i ordered to fit it. I want it as a bar in the kitchen to watch tv in the livingroom first I ordered it 56" x 12" but changed it to 56" x 15" the wall is about 5.5" thick. Is that to wide? I figured over hang 4" in living room and 6" in the kitchen being the bar stools will be there. Any thoughts also Do i need support brackets for a 6" overhang? Any answers would be appreciated
I appreciate your thoughts on this I think 6 inchs should be enough I did make the counter alittle high 49inchs off the ground so i had to get extra high bar stools to match but it came out nice for a begginner thx
