My living room flows into my kitchen and there is a "bar" to separate the rooms. You are able to see into the kitchen so the colors cannot clash. My dilemma is what two colors will go well together or should I pick one color and do different shades? I have a rich brown, comfy couch in the living room with brown furniture and a neutral carpet. The kitchen has dark cabinets and counter tops, light floors, and the appliances are white. The kitchen table is glass and dark metal. Hope that helps!
Thanks!

My cabinets are oak but were white washed by the previous owners in the 90s. I hate the white washed color because they get grimy and filthy and when I try to clean them it rubs off the finish. They are looking pretty gross now. I would like to have them refinished to a mahogany color.
I’ve had three bids now. Two companies claim that they can just clean them up and put toner OVER the white wash color and gradually stain them to a mahogany. They are not going to use stripper. One company is going to do a bit of sanding and then build the color over the white wash for 00 (which seems a bit high) but the other will just put the toner directly over the white wash with NO sanding for around 80. I have this other guy who refinished my deck and did a nice job and I gave him one of my cabinet doors to experiment on (he’s never done cabinets but has refinished lots of furniture and decks). He used stripper to get off the varnish and most of the stain, then lightly sanded to get the rest of the white wash off. Then he stained them with a mahogany color and sealed it with polyurethane. I haven’t seen the finished product yet, but he says he’s confident that he can do the job and make it look really nice. He’s willing to charge 00 for the job.
Which of these methods sounds the best? I just want my cabinets to look really good. I want the wood grain to show through and don’t want it to look painted. I also don’t want anything to peel or come off.

I’m trying to make my kitchen look a little better without spending a lot of money, so I’m planning on getting new knobs and pulls for the cupboards and drawers. My cabinets are dark wood. I’m putting up dark red wallpaper, and my decor is wine/grapes. I’m not sure whether nickel or gold would look better. Any suggestions?

I am using Better Homes and Gardens Interior Design Software and I have decorated the kitchen with a lot of country stuff like chickens, cows, pigs, country eggs, aunt jamima so my kitchen right now is like a tanish brownish color. The cabinets and the drows are tan and the wallpaper is a tan decoration. So I am trying to find a color for my kitchen to go with the country style.

My husband and I are considering some open horizontal shelving in our kitchen, to replace some of our ugly and old cabinets. I love the look of open shelving (we’re thinking three shelves in staggered lengths), especially when dishes are stored on them, but I worry that my dishes will collect dust, and that flies will terrorize them in the summer.
Anyone who has open kitchen shelving? Any up or downsides you’d like to tell me about? Will I have to rinse my dishes before using them?

I’m getting my first apartment! I have decided to do my bathroom in a frog theme but need help with the kitchen. Everyone I know has either fruit or roosters so I wanna stay away from that. I wanna do my living room in black and white cuz I have lots of family pics I could easily print in black and white.
I like clean, neat lines and order. if that helps? I have the rachael ray cookware with orange handles but dont want that to affect anything cuz I dont want it to be halloween in there all the time.
I need something cost efficient cuz I have NOTHING! Still saving so think cheap. Need more info let me know.
the appliances are white…cabinets are darkish brown and the counters are like off white/cream

Currently, my kitchen is white. The cabinets are dark brown. What colors would be good to accent my kitchen? What can I do to make it look modern? If my cabinets are dark brown wood, what kind of knobs and handles should I buy for a modern look? Any insight would be great!

I created some seating near my entrance door using 12" cabinets that I mounted to the wall with a 2X4 as a spacer and support (along with some other shoring up to make sure you could sit on it without it breaking. Anyway, I want to create a cushion to go on top (I’m assuming out of plywood, batting and material). I’ve seen some DIY TV that show the process in passing but no detail. Anyone done this or know of a turtorial?

I have just bought my first house. My kitchen has white cabinets and a chair rail. I would like to paint below the chair rail a blue (maybe a slate blue?) but I don’t know what color to paint the above the chair rail. I was thinking a off white or cream color but I’m not sure how that would look with white cabinets.

I painted three of my walls a dark tan color and one wall a chocolate color. The contrast is very nice. I have new white cabinets and white appliances. I am about to put down plain white tiles on the floor. I could use some specific suggestions on how to decorate the tops of my cabinets. I have about 2 to 2 1/2 feet between the top of the cabinet and the ceiling. In my old decor, I had greenery and birdhouse up there but I had a brighter kitchen. Now its a bit more sophisticated looking so I would like some suggestions on how to decorate. I also need to decorate my chocolate wall. Thanks for suggestions.

I am looking for a kitchen island/kitchen cart that is black with either stainless steel top or black granite/marble top, that has cabinets, and has a drop leaf [or a part that comes out longer on one side] where I can buy bar stools to put with it. I prefer one that is around 36-42 W and 18-30 D and counter height [36 H]
I can not seem to find one online anywhere
well one that is less than 0
Thank you to anyone who helps or atleast tries to help in advance
Hope you have much better luck than me

As a person who loves to cook, I would be interested in what others have to say about efficient cooking. By efficient I mean organization, such pots and pans, spices, and so forth in certain cabinets etc.
How does your kitchen affect the way you cook? What you do different if you could?

What element in the kitchen is the sink supposed to coordinate with? I have medium brown cabinets and wood floors, mostly beige (with little brown and very little black mixed in) tile countertops and backsplash and black/stainless appliances. The appliances have a high gloss sheen on the black parts, so I was thinking of doing a glossy black kitchen sink. What are your suggestions?

We have a small kitchen so we do not want to go dark, and right now our cabinets are a light wood color but their is no contrast. We just installed new slate tile floor in the kitchen so now we are stuck with ugly cabinets. HELP?
