I have a small, rectangular eat in kitchen that opens up into my long, narrow living room. Right now, I don’t have much counter space or storage. Maybe 4 feet of continuous counter space, with a little on both sides of the stove. We are about to have a custom kitchen island installed (about 4 ft. in length) that would give us more counter space and storage. The back of the island will be raised to provide an eating area and long enough to accommodate four bar stools. However, if we put the kitchen island in, it will take up the space where the table is and a table will no longer be able to go in there. I don’t have a separate dining room. However, with the kitchen opening up into the back end of my narrow living room, it would allow somebody to use that area of the living room as a dining area, except the fireplace is on that end as well, which means the table would be in front of fireplace (don’t know if that would make a difference to anybody). I’m wondering if the pros of a nice custom kitchen island with seating would outweigh the cons of not being able to have the kitchen table in there anymore? I love to cook but don’t anymore because of the lack of counter space in my kitchen. I would definitely enjoy my kitchen more with the island. However, we will be putting it on the market w/in the next five years so I need to keep the future salability in mind too.
Any answers or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am just curious as to what my house value would be in your neck of the woods. I own a 4000 sq 3 level home on 1/2 acre. I have 3 car attached garage and a heated work room. I have 3 bedrooms/3 bathroom (one with whirlpool tube). Master suite has walk in closet and balony. I have a large finished basement with bar and entertainment center (built-in) and pool table. The basement is finished with rustic barnboards on the walls. The main floor has entry, livingroom, dining room, kitchen and laundry room and a bath. Living room has fireplace and built in book shelves. entry is done with slate tile floor. Living room and all of the upstairs is done with Hickory hardwood floors with blk walnut inlay. upstairs has the 3 bedrm and bath and a loft area with built in bookshelves that over looks kitchen and dining.
I am just kinda curious what my house would be worth in your area. Thanks.
don’t forget to tell me where you are at. I know what my house is worth in my area. I am just curious about the housing market in other areas of the US.

Last night I was painting the kitchen wall and had quite a fall. I was on the top of a 6 foot ladder and one of the ladder legs broke and I fell to the ground. I have a few bruises, but, luckily, that’s all. Sadly, the paint went EVERYWHERE. I cleaned it up off the floor and kitchen stools, but I can’t get the splatter off the fireplace bricks. I’ve tried everything. The paint is water soluable, I think. I’ve used water, dish scrubber, toothbrush. Then I resorted to mineral oil and paint thinner. Neither of those did a thing. Then I even put some paint remover on and tried to scrub it off. That didn’t work either. Anyone have any suggestions, or have I just made things worse. Since I’m a 64 year old little old lady, I think this might just be my last painting project.

Ok, I have a very large living room. The first side of the two part living room includes the front door and has two large windows right beside the front door. Then it is split by a hallway and the other side has sliding glass doors and a fire place about two feet from the doors and joins with the kitchen at a bar. I really can not decide how to decorate it or even where to put the furniture or the tv. I want it to look kind of full but do not want to spend a lot of money on it. It has three walls on the side with the front door but the one wall is cut in half on one side where you enter the dining room to make it two walls. On the side with the fireplace it has 3 walls, as well. One holds the fireplace, the other holds the glass doors and the other is like 5 to 6 foot wide. The entire room is undecorated and I need ideas for furniture, pictures, things to do with the walls, colors, curtains, etc. Basically I need a living room layout for this huge room because with the hallway in the middle of it; I have no idea how to set it up. All ideas are welcome, and I appreciate all the help!

I had some friends over for a dinner party last weekend. It was a couple that I had known for several years who came in from New England, "Linda" and "Joe" my neighbor’s from across the street "Karen" and "Pete" and their daughter "Jane". Jane is only 15 but she’s a little trouble maker and I’ve had several problems with her, she wasn’t even allowed at my house but I okayed it this time because she was grounded and her parents didn’t want to leave her at home alone. In the past this girl has lied to me, she stole alcohol from my house, she teased my foster-son because his mother died of cancer, and she broke into my yard while I was away and used my pool (I found out through security cam video) This girl is bad news. Last weekend she took it too far and she destroyed my friendship with her parents.
Here is what happened:
I have a deck in front of my house use it to relax on we have outdoor furniture and a fireplace. Jane was sitting near the fire along with her parents, and my friend Joe. His wife, Linda was helping me in the kitchen. My husband and foster son were on the back deck BBQing. At some point Karen and Pete come inside to help set the table leaving Jane and Joe outside on the deck, alone. About 5 minutes later Joe comes inside and we start talking about how it was still 70F outside where I live (California) and it’s raining and cold where he was living. Everything seemed fine until Jane comes in the house, she asks her mother if she could have a sip of her wine and Linda says "that’s a no-no in my house, i’m a social worker you know…and i’ve seen kids kill themselves thinking they could drink." I added "sorry no underage drinking in my house" and Karen than added "you heard the women!" pissed she left the room. Later all the adults were in the dining room (dinner wasn’t quite ready) and my fosterson and Jane were sitting in the living room where we have a full bar (it’s usually locked but since we had guests over and there is a trap door under the bar into the wine cellar we had it open) My foster son comes into the dinning room and says "umm Jane’s getting into the bar" Karen and I come out and Jane is trying to open the liquor cabinet in the bar, and a scene ensued.
Jane now crying, says she just wanted to "drowse" her sorrows because she was "molested by that creepy guy" ( she was trying to get out of being grounded for another 4 weeks) when her parents asked her to explain she said that when they left her out on the deck with joe that he walked up to her and showed her his penis told her "you better suck it and you better not tell" and than shoved himself in her mouth. As you can imagine Joe was freaked out he just keeped saying "never happend, never happend I just asked her how she was doing in school, id never do that." of coarse her parents took her side and were about to call the police when I told them to hold on let’s all sit down for a sec before the police are called and talk about this, but no they just screamed at me and said I was enabling a child molester and that I should be ashamed they left and the police were called. Linda and Joe didn’t leave my home since the police were coming. While we were waiting for the police my foster-son said "why don’t we just review the security cameras like we did when the brat broke into our pool" so I did and the camera showed Joe sitting about 4 feet away from Jane, than it showed Jane talking to Joe, the audio was really hard to understand but this is what we could make out:
Jane: do you like the snow?
Joe: Not as much as when I was a child
Jane: I like the snow
Joe: do you have snow around her?
Jane: not that kind of snow, the kind that goes up your nose (laughing)
<silence for about 30secs>
Joe: how are you doing in school are you a good student?
Jane: <says something but we can’t make it out>
Joe : Oh, I see. I better go back inside and sit with the wife
Joe than walks away the opposite direction of Jane at no point did he come close enough to Jane to shake her hand let alone what she was claiming.
The police asked Janes parents to come back over to see the video themselves, they did and they said sorry to all of us (but I don’t think I will be talking to them again) They just made excuses for her saying that "She has a learning disability and it causes her to have a low self esteem and act out." when I asked what her learning disability is they said "dyslexia" I think it’s something else because there has to be some other cause for her inexcusable behavior.
Sorry I know it’s a long one but thanks for the advice.

So I am getting married in March (OMG!) I’m really excited. Anyway, my fiance and I are paying for everything and we’re on a tight budget, so we found this really nice garden park where we can have the wedding ceremony, they also cater and hold receptions, the only thing is that their reception room is WAY more than we care to spend on it. So our apartment complex has a really nice club house, it has a full kitchen, a bar area, a HUGE fireplace, chairs and couches, a big screen tv, the works. We were thinking of having our reception there. We are only have 30 people including us to both the ceremony and the reception. Our wedding will also be at 9am with a continental b-fast at the reception. So at the club house we would decorate to fit my black and white/bride and groom theme, and have the wedding favors placed here and there for people to take. How does that sound, do you think it sounds too cheap?

My wife is always in the mood. Moisture never departs her. She is a leading manufacturer of female lubrication.
But it takes a clip of Screech, from Saved by the Bell, to make her orgasm. Sometimes we start our connection in the kitchen, or on the stairs, or by the fireplace, or in the swing, but when she wants to get her orgasm, we have to go to our bedroom, where the DVD player is.
We have a water bed, so I bought a queening stool. She gets in the stool and raises her rump high in the air. But before I get back there and plunge into her, I have to turn the television on and get the remote for her.
It’s humiliating. The clip lasts five seconds, but she’s designed the clip to replay itself over and over. It’s a scene where Screech gives Lisa (the black girl) a kiss on the cheek.
And that’s it. After about a minute of watching the clip run over and over, she drizzles out a triumphant orgasm.
Are any other women this way?

I have a flat fireplace in our family room. The walls are a greek olive color and our furniture is black. The room flows into our kitchen that is colored a light yellow with rosewood colored cabinets, with white wood blinds. How should I paint the fireplace frame? The doors are black glass surrounded with white tiles, which I don;t really like and I;m thinking of replacing them in the future.

My family room was originally a one car garage. Let’s call the walls A, B, C and D; the shorter walls are A and C. A is a solid wall except for a closet on the left end of the wall. To the right is wall B. There is a window on the end up against wall A. Just before the window ends below it is the left end of a fireplace. A second window starts just before the fireplace ends. This configuration takes up about 2/3 of the wall. The last third is just wall. The third wall, C, has a section parallel to A about two feet wide but then justs out at a diagonal to become a wall shaped like a bay window with three sections, each with waist to ceiling windows. The far side of C angles back into the room ending with another 2 foot long segment parallel to A. The fourth wall, D, is solid but where it meets A there is a doorway into the kitchen which is a step up. Any ideas on where to place sofa, chairs, 32" TV, etc? Thanks!

My new house is white and tan throughout, with some green in the master bath & a little blue in the guest bath. Our couch & club chairs are brown. Other furniture is avocado, mauve & black. (The rug makes it work.) Curtains in the living room & master bedding are French blue, we have smoke sheers in the master. It all looks good, but I want to begin planning the walls & accents while ensuring we attract abundance, health, friends & happiness – not the opposite.
By Chinese horoscopes, I am metal, my husband is fire and my kids are both earths. I read a lot about feng shui, but don’t know how to apply it.
I created a Ba-gua:
front door/living room – South
master bedroom – Southwest (head of the bed – Southwest/West wall, MA door faces Northeast)
master bath – Western corner
kitchen & laundry room – Northwest
family room (with fireplace) and office – North
guest room is Northeast
guest bath is East
children’s bedroom is Southeast
What are inherant obstacles? Fixes/Tips?
Last night I went and did a little more digging. My Kua # is 4. My husband’s is 6. Hubby’s year sign is fire sheep and fixed element is fire. By year I am a metal pig and my fixed element is water.
I do find not only is some information I read contradictory, but of course my husband and I are cancelling each other out. 3 1/2 weeks after we moved here I was fired unexpectedly from my job of 3 1/2 years, which is causing terrible financial problems. I am also concerned especially about our health. I am interested in the flying stars method, but don’t know how to apply it, and is it for the whole house or for each room? Thanks very much for your help.

My whole house is this grey green. Because we live in Seattle and it is dark and rainy most of the year it can be gloomy. I am thinking of painting my kitchen and nook and hallways a lt. soft creamy yellow with a hint of orange. I was considering BM antique lace 922,devon cream or cookie dough 916. My thought was to get a lt.warm color that blends with the cabinets. I like an old world shabby vintage look. The kitchen and nook face SE and are open to the family room. Do you think that color would look nice in my kitchen? Any ideas for specific colors? I also would love a color idea for the family room. Something a bit warmer and bit darker as it has very high ceilings and faces east. The family room has a rock faced fireplace with lt. cool browns and the carpet is a soft cool taupe-beige. The wall of windows are wrapped in heavy white trim. I currently have lots of dark furniture (lt.taupe brown leather couch, dark wood piano ect. I am hoping to change the furniture eventually to med or lighter shades. Thank you! Juliet
(the picture is when is from our first viewing.. those are the former owners things on the counters) My taste is a bit more classic vintage.
