How can I make my barstool taller?

I bought some barstools off craigslist for a steal but they are a little too short for my bar. they are light metal frame painted black. Is there any way to add up to 5 inches and keep them stable? I know that they are not extenable legs… Any tips? Or should I go buy new ones?
The bar is part of the kitchen. It extends from the wall, so making that shorter is impossible. plus, im sure my landlord wouldn’t be too thrilled. But the wheels sound interesting hopefully not too dangerous…..I’ll head to lowes today. Please keep the idea’s coming.

Long story short, about a month & half ago my ex & I reconnected.. He looked me up, pursued me & we started talking again. In this instance I felt it was worth a try (the reasons we had broken up are reversible) & would regret it more if I didn’t try.. We had dated over 3 years & were broken up for a little over a year. I dated a couple people, he dated one person during that time. Anyway.. Just before we had gotten back together in May, it was "in the works" that his best friend (who works for his landscaping business) would move in with him into a house to rent (my bf had been living w/parents as rent is high around here). I am 24 & he’s 23. Right now, they (including his uncle who is the landlord) are renovating the small house, putting in new flooring, painting, new outlets etc. When we talk on the phone, i hear of all the neat things they’re doing to it. I’ve yet to be invited to come over to help, watch etc. I will be very honest: I am jealous that his friend gets to see him every day at work & now will live with him when renovations are done soon. I feel in a way that he’s taken my place. He is my competition. They are attached at the hip. I am lucky to see my boyfriend once or twice a week. And NO he is not gay, he is as straight as they come before anyone suggests that lol. I’m feeling really awkward about the situation but I don’t want to come across as the clingy, jealous girlfriend. His friend is getting to be part of a fun, new experience (getting a new house ready, picking out furniture to buy, etc) and I am not involved with the new place. I work full time but I’m still stuck at home, because I wouldn’t be able to afford a place without a roomate(s). Haven’t found anything yet. Anyway, the core of the issue is I just feel crappy how his friend gets to see him so much/do a lot with him. I feel left out and kind of like the third wheel. I usually have to wait til his friend leaves on a weekend to see him. I do believe we love each other but I also feel like I may be taken for granted.. How do i make it clear I need to be seen more & be more of a priority? How do I feel less jealous of his new roomate? I feel as though I am being pushed aside & it’s not a good feeling.. its like he’s trying to leave the single life but have me on the side (his friend is single & likes to hang out at bars some, kinda immature).. but yet he had pursued me for many years & acted like he loved me.. Any thoughts/input appreciated a ton.. basically it just feels like the roles are literally reversed.. I am the friend he hangs out with now & then, and he’s the girlfriend w/him 24/7 lol.. :-/ Thank You for help!




in the rental unit we live in we have this gloomy off shade of white and we hate it! landlord does not want us to paint. i would like any decorating advice for the living room to cover up or distract from the walls. there are no windows unfortunately but there is a sliding glass door for the deck on one side. we don’t currently have much furniture either but would like to get some if anyone has a good color scheme idea to help with our problem. thank you all impute is appreciated.




Help w/ trying to fit red into my decor.?

My new house has RED PEPPERS border around the top. (my landlord say I cold take it down) But there is read accents everywhere. Not just the border.
Any ideas on Kitchen Decor that would match Chili Pepper Red?

my leasing ended on march/2008 i never had any problem with the people who was running the restaurant but, they decided to do the same thing after 6 months and they sold the business on feb/2007, they ask me if they would do this and I say ok but they should still paying me the rent cause I had the commitment with the landlord and I was responsible to pay the rents so they always paid me until my leasing finished, But my guarantee was the restaurant equipment. The "new owners went into a new leasing for 5 years and it supposed they should pay me the property taxes for the furniture and equipment of 2008. But when I was paying my property taxes online I decided to check if this account correspondent to the business still under my name, unfortunateley it is and not only that, these people never paid the taxes so I did it and now they don’t want to pay me that money. What can I do if I never signed anything with them. The people who did the agreement were my buyers and now they are trying to collect this money for me but he second tenants just moved out from hte space in the middle of the night and they took out all the furniture and equipment. I have found them but it supposed that my buyers must go and ask them to pay me the money since they were the ones who sold the business and they signed the contract with this people.
What can I do?

I know it sounds silly. But my landlord dropped off a can of stain w/water guard. Well I didn’t read the can properly…After letting it dry over 24 hrs it was still "tacky". It comes off to the touch. After reading the can more thoroughly it says "not to be used on decks or wood lawn furniture" well TOO LATE. It does not say what to do if you do so…
Anybody have this happen to them? If so how did you remedy it while still saving the existing wood? I need to remove as much as I can. I don’t know if I want to strip it, I hear bleach can destroy wood. I am scared of mixing another chemical with it and causing a bad reaction and I don’t want to but a clear coat of water sealant on it yet because I am afraid this oil based evil product will keep it from curing correctly. Please spare me the “you should have read the can” I did not take note to the fine print…I made a mistake, and now I am trying to fix it. Anything would be appreciated! Thanks everyone

do you see this as a bad child hood?




starting at birth i’m the youngest of 3 and i was also the "mistake" child my siblings are 14 and 10 years older than me my dad smoked and drunk and was 49 when i was born and my mom was 33

3 years old is as far back as i can remember first of all i lived in the same house from birth all the way to 13 and it was a last minute whim because they had to move for more space for me and they had a really nice place and the day before they moved the landlord made my dad give the keys back because he heard around the neighbor hood my dad was a drug dealer but that was his best friend not him so my dad’s friend fixed a house up in two weeks the house had no installation in the walls was bug infested had mold all over it one outlet in each room and was very unhealthy and to top if off my dad smoked in the house so the walls where tinted yellow my dad slept on the couch i shared a room with my mom until i was six because we only had 3 small bedrooms and when my sister moved out my mom took her room my brother got the biggest room and i was stuffed in the smallest corner room i remember eating peanut butter and jelly and kool aid for lunch every day until i was about 5 or 6 when i was 7 and 8 my parents where always at work so i had to tag around with my brother who would play basket ball at the park with his friend till like 10 o clock and always told me i was to little to play then when i was 5-7 my mom was in and out of the hospital and my dad raised us in that time and he was an acholac so when we were waking up for school he was just getting home from the bar when i was 7 my dad told my mom that he didn’t want us talking to my sister any more becuase her new boyfriend was a recoved fellon and he heard alot of rumors about him (he was really a nice guy) so my mom would take me and we would have to sneek around to see her and my dad had his friends all around the neigbor hood watching and he heard that he moved in with her so he made my mom walk with him one time at like midnight to see if his car was there and another time i went with him and he told me we were going out to get breakfast then my dad later died when i was 9 and my brother was pissed and him and my mom fought almost every day and she kicked him out one night and the cops brung him home and my mom told them he wasn’t wlecomed here so he had to go to my sisters for the night then when he was 20 our mom got a boyfriend and when my brother was 21 she kicked him out so her boyfriend could move in and my brother had to go to my aunts and i was moved out the big room to the corner room again but now it was smaller because my brother had his stuff in the closet and i didnt even have a dresser i just had a shelf with my clothes on it and i was always finding bug in my room we also lived in a high crime neigbor hood and i remember we use to put plastic over our windows that where cracked and repared with duck tape even thow i didnt care i never got a gift i wanted or a card or any thing and my parents couldn’t even afford coats for us and we never had a matching furniture set or cable and almost every thing in our house was from off the curb and i was offen bored because even though i had older siblings they where gone and why would they want to play with some one so much youger




Small pub identity theft?




I worked 9 years for a pub and eventually made deal with owner to start buying place over but then 1 year after i bought all furniture,fridges,tables, everything inside place the landlord kicked us out and didnt want us to sign new lease and the owner then declared bankrupcy i got to keep everything luckuly so decided to open the same themed pub again just on new premises with the same name got the liquer lisence and everything but now the landlord of the previous place the pub was is opening his own pub with my pubs name after we build the name up what can i do

Well, I’ve been creating a plot for a story that’s good 4 either a book or movie because it’s summer and I needed some leisure time. I would just want to know what do you think?

Here’s the story:

It’s about a guy named Sean who has been getting bad luck after quitting his job as a literacy critic for a magazine to pursue his dream as a novelist. His girlfriend left him for a rich man, his landlord’s chasing him for rent money, and he’s suffering from writer’s block. He has since drown into depression, and had several suicide attempts.

His seventh attempt was the last straw as he was kicked out of his apartment and was living on the streets. His older brother Roger finds him on the street and took him to his loft. Sean learns that Roger’s gay, as Roger’s been hiding it from the family ever since, and mentions Roger about his status in high school as being popular and dating many girls (he learns they used him for fashion advice and he only had an eye for the captain of the soccer team).

After passing out at a bar, Sean was taken back to the loft, as a flower plant suddenly drops from the upper level and breaks a priceless antique, or in Roger’s case, a chair once sat by Gianni Versace. Sean then encounters the neighbour, Eileen, for the first time, as she complains with Roger and his lover, Jamie, over the hole she created.

He would meet her again the next day, during her day job as a dog walker. Eileen is a free-spirit whose family knows every Hollywood legend from the classic era, dresses oddly, is very klutzy, has a child-like behavior, likes to talk about mindless things, always breaks the rules, loves to watch strangers and dub over their conversations with music or with her imagination and loves to have fun. Sean also learns of her night job as a singer at a cabaret, and her long-going feud with Roger and Jamie over Eileen killing their dog (The dog was chased by one of Eileen’s dogs and was ran over by a taxi).

Sean begins to hang out with Eileen more, even when they fix the hole in the apartment. Eileen’s bohemian personality was a sudden change to Sean’s organized and depressed life, as he is becoming more outgoing and getting luck with a new book deal. He suddenly begins to fall in love with Eileen. He confesses it to her, but it was too late as Eileen leaves her apartment and Sean behind to further her music career.

When they reunite, Sean has become a best-selling author for his book about his relationship with Eileen and Eileen is touring with her Vegas-performing brother. Sean learns that this will be his last chance to win Eileen back, and he is willing to take risks to win back the girl.

Well, the title I chose is "A Girl Like You" and if the plot sounds familar to you, let me know cause it’s just a draft and I’ve been getting a feeling it was done before. As well, I’m also in high school.

paint help…?




I need to repaint my apt. unsure of the colors –landlord said cant paint whatever Id like. as long as i repaint it before I move. My apt is about 600-650 sq feet..(estimate) How many gallons of paint would I need to do 2 coats on my walls…What color? My furniture is mostly dark oak..dark couches.. I want something to brighten up the place..any suggestions on what to do in ea. room. kitchen livingroom bedrooms and bathroom..Thanks…







I signed a lease to rent a property after viewing it once with the landlord. During the viewing, the family who lived there were in – their stuff was everywhere and the house looked in need of decoration but otherwise ok. I got the keys today – its awful! The furniture was hiding big holes in the wallpaper and mould in the kitchen. The bath panelling is cracked. The carpets are dirty and stained and the house is not clean. I was told that the house would be redecorated and cleaned before I moved in. This hasn’t happened. They now say they will paint and redecorate the two bedrooms but the rest of the house is still horrible. Is there any way out of this. Its costing me £450 per month! I’d appreciate any advice as I’m just feeling so down and sick at the thought of living there.




Is this a good Appt?




0 Canadian, 6th floor private bachelor appt, no balcony. Elevator, the floors are wood-coated. 1 bedroom, 1 kitchen, 1 bathroom, and 1 large room. No furniture save kitchen counter.

Pros: Hydro, stove, fridge, C02 Detector, shower, laundry on-site. Walking distance from train station; .00 ticket gives me access to Toronto. Building has security and locked front doors. Internet probable. Near highway if I ever get a car. No-smoking and no-drugs policy in effect; drug-sniffing dogs. Cage to lock bike in.

Cons: The whole building smells like soap. Right beside the train tracks and near the highway. I didn’t see any groccery stores nearby.

-This building is the second-least-expensive I could find; the least-expensive won’t return my calls. I’ve just graduated from College and I owe some student loan, and I haven’t found a job yet. But if I find a job in Toronto, this would be the ideal for low-cost transport.
Additional: The landlord wants some info, like my Social Insurance number, proof of income, 3 non-relative references, my last 2 landlord’s contact info, and a (refundable?) 0 application fee in cashier’s cheque. Is this stuff usually required?
Fee: He said it is refundable if I’m not accepted, and will go towards rent if I am accepted.




Georgia rental laws for tenants?




I’m living in a rental property that has 2 of the bedrooms infested with mold that has grown on furniture and walls, kitchen floor cave in, ceiling is leaking when it rain, and no ac. Landlord still want rent. What shall I do when the landlord seen all of my furniture mess up.







I moved into a 2 bed, livingroom, dining room and teeny kitchen apartment and I’m allowed to paint. It’s a brownstone, so there is lots of antique door frames and trim Everywhere! All the trim must be Pure White Glossy according to my landlord. With all that white and also being a beginner at painting I thought of all the colors I have loved (Aqua/turquoise, avocado, chocolate, sage, deep reddish orange) but realized that most of those colors are already in either my rugs, pillows, art or furniture. After lots of hair pulling and indecisiveness I finally figured I’d stick to light neutrals.

But what white goes with Ultra Pure White? And doesn’t just look dull or dingy against it? I want to get the whole apartment done in one paint job so I’d like to stick to one or just a few complimentary shades of white in all the rooms. I’ve considered Off-white? What do you think? If it helps, the floors are golden wood, and the wood on the furniture is sorta walnut (medium shades).







Hi, I have lived in this house for 4 years and now my landlord wants to add an extension to the house so that she can rent it out as an apartment to get more money. She doesn’t fix anything and this addition will cause me to lose the basement area and back door to the house and two of the windows in my bedroom. She wants to do this now in the winter. That means i have to take out most of my furniture, computer out of my bedroom so she can come in and remove 2 windows ( this because shes going to share the wall with the new addition). she also wants to take out the only kitchen window out of my kitchen and make that the new back door. My question is: can i refuse to let her inside to do the repairs until at least spring? They’ve already started building and although she assures me that she’ll be done in one day ( yea right) I’m afraid it will take longer and i’ll be left with holes in my walls. Can she do this while I’m living here? can i refuse? She has no building permit either. help!
We have no lease it’s month to month. I called city hall to find out if the property is listed as being a rental and it isn’t. Unfortunately i was told they aren’t required. So I then called the Inspectors to see when was the last time that my house was inspected for safety codes ect. They couldn’t even find any records. I’m thinking I’m just going to report her that she’s building without a permit ( they’re building as we speak , woke me up early this morning and havent stopped) I took pictures. I’m not sure she has the permits. How would i find out for sure? Does she have to have them posted on the property? I don’t want to accuse her without being 100% sure. :) thanks everyone for the help.
I just called the building inspector and they checked she has no permit and renting the basement to other people is illegal too. They’re coming tomorrow to stop the work. At this point is she kicks me out whatever. thanks everyone.
