We are having a barbeque at my house next weekend and I am big on everything being clean and perfect when I have guests over. The back porch concrete is stained from my husband working on it and the kids spilling all sorts of stuff. How to I get the stains off without killing the grass and plants around it? Something other than a power washer or sand blaster please.

It is a simple, off-white canvas livingroom chair. It has a lot of stains so something needs to be done. Unless it is very tight fitting, a slipcover is not really an option because my son would pull it off all the time. The only ideas I have are 1. painting it somehow and 2. applying iron-on patches in some sort of pattern. It doesn’t have to look fantastic becuase I am probably going to relocate the chair to the playroom. Any cool and cheap ideas?

I have 3 boys who are very messy. They tend to get something (ketchup, juice, anything that typically stains) on their seats at every meal. I want to reupholster my dining room chairs with something that is easy to clean and will last a few years with daily use. I have no idea what kind of fabric to use. Please help. Thanks.

My kitchen caught fire but the only damage caused were stains from the fire and smoke on my kitchen cabinets. If someone has any tips on how to remove these stains i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Re-stuff patio chairs?

I just bought a seven piece used patio furniture set. My question is how to I get the cushions on the chairs to puff up again. Of course from usage they are packed down and don’t have the "puff" look anymore. The cushion design itself is still in great shape, no rips or stains, just lacking in comfort. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Okay, let me give you a little detail on what my room looks like now, the size of it, what’s already in it, etc:
The size of my room is exactly 10 feet by 11 feet 2 inches (I’m in an apartment).
The things already in my room are a brown oakwood dresser, a matching nightstand, a double slider window with that little bar at the top, a silver TV stand, a protruding heater, a built-in double door closet, a queen sized bed with no slacks or nothing, it’s just sitting on the floor. Oh, and there’s this little wall when you come in my room about the length of one of my arms (I’m 5’8).
The walls of my room are all white with the exception of a few little marks and/or stains that unfortunately my younger brother put up when he was in here. Same thing goes for the cream-colored floor (I’m really looking for something that cover the stains.)

Now let me tell you what I’m looking to achieve after the makeover:

I want my room to look like something out of a better homes and garden magazine or something remotely close to it. Like I want the walls to be a bright white, the floor to be covered by a nice colored or patterned rug. I want some really bright curtains with some matching patterned bedding. I want like some really nice furniture coverings for my dresser and nightstand and stuff. Um, I want to be able to cover my walls in like some really pretty posters of people or patterns and if I can, I want to be able to hang like some little shapes or something from my ceiling. I’m also looking for a cute lamp to go in here too. Oh yeah, I have a lot of stuff in my room everywhere (tons of shoes, clothes, makeup, etc.), so any cute stylish storage suggestions would be nice too. And anything else that could really set my room off as lovely and beautiful would be grand.

Oh yeah, if you haven’t noticed, I’m a little bit of a pattern and color freak :)

If it helps, my favorite colors are royal purple and cerulean blue.

Thanks In Advance For Your Help!

P.S. I don’t have a lot of money like that so if the suggestions could be low-price, that’d be even better.

Want rustic look in my Enclosed Patio..?

We recently got a 40 years old house. The house is unique and we love it. We want to redecorate the enclosed patio. The previous owner had the walls stains and the carpet is red. It has kinda old look. I want to paint the wall and change the carpet. I want some thing like dark green in the stain and still the brown stain should show from beneath. How do I do it?

What kind and color should I buy carpet?
Thanks in advance,
Ani

My friend’s house is a complete mess. Help?

I know my question probably made me sound snobby and ignorant, but if you’re still interested keep reading: This is one of my VERY best friends, and I want to feel comfortable when I go over to her house. It’s just so unsanitary and an eyesore. Her dog (a westie) isn’t housebroken. And even though my friend and her family have absorbent sheets for the dog to use, Roxie (dog’s name) goes wherever she pleases. And the things is, my friend’s family sometimes don’t clean up after her. Which definitely makes a difference over time. I’m super sorry if this sounds gross, but tend to be little pieces of stool on the floors. Then there’s the vomit stains (from the dog) on the carpet, and odor near the garage and kitchen. The kitchen floor looks like it hasn’t seen a mop in years. Plus, the house has dead bugs lying around. Now I know that I can’t expect everyone’s house to be sparkling – mine isn’t either. But I just want to enjoy spending the night at my friend’s house instead of feeling disgusted. When I take a step in to the home, I would like to take a step back out. I really do not want to hurt my friend’s feeling by saying anything…I’m not sure what to do.

Any advice? Has anyone been in this kind of situation before?

Problematic adult sister with possible ADHD?

My sister is a year and a half older than me, but acts 10 years younger. She is the mother of two children, recently separated from her husband of 8 years (he left her because of the way that she is). She is messy (never sweeps/mops, furniture is covered in food and stains, clothes all over the house. she always has at least 4 animals in her house and it reeks like litter, the animals also continuously have fleas and matting in their fur…it looks like an episode of Hoarders). She sits around all day and watches tv or sits at the computer. Only calls our mother or myself when she wants something (ie to watch the kids while she goes out to a bar or she needs money "for bills" aka booze/smokes) or to whine and complain about even the smallest issues. I try to listen, give her advice (especially when it comes to money management) however, if she doesnt like to hear it she will hang up. Recently, I have become engaged and am expecting my first child. She doesnt call with Big Sister advice or to see how i’m doing…instead, its more drama about her ex or her kids, etc. I’m fine without her advice as i have great support from friends and other family, but its very stressful when all i want is for her to be happy and not so….jealous. She exhibits all the signs of ADHD but thinks that nothing is wrong with her. Is there anything that I can do to get her to see that she needs help to be truly happy? Getting her to see a therapist is out of the question….Should I cut ties with her even if it means she won’t let me see my niece and nephew again? Please help.

Is it OK to bathe my cats once a month to keep them clean and remove loose hair? Should I bathe them more often?

Any *special* brushes or shampoos to help with shedding?

Tips on how to cut down on vomiting? With 3 cats I tend to clean up at least 2 hair balls a week and it always stains the carpet.

Cat grass? My cats ADORE it. Does it help – or make worse – hair balls?

Last question…………
How do I keep my cats off my bed, furniture and kitchen counter? When I am home I use a squirt bottle filled with water but as soon as I leave the house the sneaky little devils crawl in the bed, take over the furniture and wallow all over the kitchen counter!!! This is REALLY getting on my nerves. What can I do?

My Roommate has IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome). He’s a nice guy, but often when we have guests he can be in the kitchen and his light tan khaki pants may turn dark brown in the back. The smell pervades the room, he becomes embarrassed, and we usually don’t see him again until the company leaves.

I have paid for most of the furniture in the house and he stains it often. What do I do? A part of me wants to tell him I can’t abide with his problem any longer- it is hard to live with- and ask him to move. Any suggestions? His name is Joe.

I just spent about 0 bucks for a table and chairs. It was 1/2 off and it is quality furniture, How do I protect it from stains etc. Should I have a glass top made or should I wax it or how do you protect your wooden table tops?

How do I get a curry stain off chair covers?

I have black and white printed chairs and have a curry stain on them. I have soaked them in water with washing solution and rubbed bar soap on the stain, but it just seems ingrained! I have also put carpet cleaner on it but nothing has worked. I don’t think bleach would work as the black parts would run… does anyone have a magic solution for removing curry stains?

How can I clean my stained desk chair?

There are several stains on the chair and I usually sit on it with a towel but it is the chair that was in the room when I moved in, what can I use and how can I clean this chair without a steam cleaner?
