I have a small kitchen 8ft x 13ft with 9.5ft ceiling in a home built in 1926. I am looking at white wood cabinets with inset doors/drawers and a farm house sink. I like the idea of the bottom wall cabinets to be 36" and then top them with 18" cabinets with glass inserts. Finished with crown molding to match the rest of the house. My question is…Since the space is so small should the cabinets go to all the way to ceiling, or would it make it look like a library?

i’m moving to a house that was built in 1850 and then added onto a few times, I’ve looked all over for ideas and can’t find anything that seems to fit correctly. i like the liberty of london from target and the simply shabby chic by target, all though i can’t find the liberty of london in stores anymore and they don’t have bath accessories and not enough bedroom choices, and i feel that the shabby chic would be to dull for me.
any who i need help with this i’m out of ideas. i want bright happy colors but i want them to be similar to what they would have used in the 1850s.
2 full and 2 1/2 baths
one bedroom with 2 sets bunk beds for 13yr old and 15yr old girls with a 1/2 bath
1 bedroom for 2 girls age 2 and 3 i have farm bedding for the crib that i LOVE
library white book shelves and a black leather loveseat and chair
kitchen wood walls, wood cabinets, butcher block with random bar stools (plan to paint them to add color)
dining room 2 corner cabinets, light oak table and chairs
mudroom with full bathroom, all wood walls, etc
under steps play area, tile floor and wood walls
master bedroom, darker furniture with beige/brown bedding

I have wood cabinets in my kitchen and I tried furniture polish and scrubbed it really hard, but the stuff on it didnt come off. The "stuff" is just things that have accumulated over the years. I’m sure its food, dust, and maybe oil.
thanks guys.

The kitchen, informal dinning area and living room in my house are connected. The kitchen and informal dinning have light brown tiles and the living room a light beige carpet. About 6 months ago we got a oyster leather living room transitional style and a modern style coffee table, but now that we want to buy the informal dinning set we haven’t being able to find anything that will combine with the kitchen that has cherry medium color wood cabinets and a traditional feel and the modern living room furniture. By the way all the walls are white. Please help.

Ok, rebuilding the kitchen/living room after Katrina. Medium brown wooden floors in kitchen, light wood cabinets, black counter tops, white molding. The kitchen is melted within the living room which has brown carpet and new furniture which we have yet to pick….what color should I paint the walls??? I just tried dark grey and I love the color but I don’t think it matches the wood color…

My kitchen and living room Connect through a big bar opening in the wall. I was thinking of doing the kitchen some shade of green that will go with the stainless steel Appliances and honey wood cabinets. In my living room I have Chocolate brown Curtains that I love, but I am unsure of what colors to paint the walls. My couches are light tan, and most other furniture is black With the kitchen being green I feel the living room being green would be too much. I was thinking light powder blue, but the carpet we currently have is about that color, so it may again be too much. We are however going to be upgrading to honey colored wood flooring within a year. So I need a color that will work for now as well as when we change to wood flooring.

Going to redo the surface of everything, but the only thing I’ve committed to is painted my currently dark wood cabinets white. Suggestions for a wall color? I’ll approach the floors and the counters after that. My furniture isn’t anything worth matching to either.

I recently purchased my first home. I bought a brown sofa and the accent color is a nice blue. There are also some silver accents throughout the area. The home has an open floor plan, so the kitchen sits off the dining area. The kitchen has light wood cabinets. I need a dining table and an entertainment center (flat screen tv stand w/ two towers). I saw a a black dining set and tv stand which I love, but wasn’t sure if they would work with my color scheme. Or should I do dark wood for those pieces? let me know your thoughts!
