most of your statement has the colors brown and tan in it except the idea of green. Judging from what you described I would suggest a more neutral color like maybe coffee or caramel that would both enhance the wood grain of your future flooring and the brown of your curtains as well as the honey cabinets in your kitchen. Stay in the same family and use accents of colors like green pillows etc.
A shade or two darker green than the kitchen to connect the two rooms.

you absolutely can continue with the green into your living room. And it won’t be too much, because you have different color schemes in furnishing and accessories. Just the opposite – continuing with the green will create a feeling of flow.

I think a very light green or blue would look great. If you’re afraid that there’s too much going on. Just a hint of color will still give it that special touch. I think these colors will compliment your light cabinets and even the stainless steel. Maybe something like this?
