what's the best way to repair this break on my wooden bar stool?

The rear stretcher connected to the rear legs, has broke. The break is near one of the rear legs, while a piece of the stretcher remains connected to the leg. It can easily be glued back together, but, I want the stretcher to be strong again. Strong enough to hold up against someone who rests their foot on top of the stretcher. If a shin hits the stretcher or when moving the chair. Please see the photo’s of the break, I’m only a level 1 user, please copy and paste links to see, sorry.

I believe it was connected by a mortise and tenon joint.

onlything I would do is to toe-nail it in place with three 3" woodscrews.using a counter sink drill bit to hide the screws in the upright, and some good gorillea wood glue.
