why would my cat be urinating on the furniture?
We have 2 cats, brother and sister and have never had any problems like this. We moved house recently and both cats have taken to going to the toilet inside the house, rather than outside like they used to. Our female hates, absolutely hates using a litter box, and our male would only ever use one if he couldnt get outside.
At our old place they used to go outside all the time, but in the new place they seem to prefer to be indoors. There is another cat in the neighbourhood but it hasnt been around our yard since the first couple of days that we were here. It is getting to the stage where the cats are peeing anywhere that we might sit – like the couch and bar chairs, or our bed (usually while we are in it, and usually on me!)
Any help would be appreciated

i agree that they are not used to the new territory and are marking what is theirs. the other cats can pick up that sent even if they are quite far away. the male is marking you as his and the house as his. the female will stop but i don’t agree that two weeks is as long as it will take. males in the neighborhood sent on you female and come calling when she had her heat. the male is spraying saying she’s mine. they can and will breed together if you don’t get them fixed before they are 6 to 7 months old. lemon juice help to remove the oder in the house. good luck.
The trouble is that your cats haven’t gotten used to their new surroundings. In the old house, the cats had their scent on, well, everything! Usually they add their scent by rubbing against things, but sometimes cats will urinate on things to get their scent there. Don’t worry, they will stop within about two weeks.
It may be just the change in surroundings but I would first consider a possible urinary tract infection. Call your vet and talk to them and find out what they recommend. Cats will often stop using a litter box when they get an infection because they associate it with the pain from the infection. Once you have eliminated a possible infection, then I would say it will just take some time for the cats to get used to their new home. You will need to completely remove the odor of urine from where ever they have peed or they will continue to go there. I have more info on my blog if you’re interested.
You may need to take it to obedience training and it needs to get used to it’s new surroundings. You said that your cats would never go in a litter box. They are not the owner… You are and they need to get used to that.
cuz they hate you. lol
